Warhounds Prepare to Launch “Slapshots & Storybooks” Reading Program

GAYLORD, Mich. — The Northern Michigan Warhounds are preparing to turn reading into a whole new kind of game with the upcoming launch of Slapshots & Storybooks, a youth literacy program that will encourage children to read, complete challenges and earn exciting Warhounds rewards.

With team mascot Howler leading the way, Slapshots & Storybooks will combine the excitement of hockey with the power of reading. Young participants will have opportunities to work toward rewards that may include Warhounds game tickets, exclusive team merchandise, special prizes and other surprises.

The program is being created to make reading fun, interactive and rewarding while helping young people build confidence and develop strong reading habits away from the classroom.

For the Warhounds, Slapshots & Storybooks represents another opportunity to use hockey as a way to connect with families and make a positive impact throughout Northern Michigan. The organization believes that building a strong Pack goes far beyond what happens on the ice—it also means supporting children, schools, families and the communities the team represents.

Howler will serve as the face of the program, encouraging young readers to open a book, take on new challenges and celebrate every reading milestone like a goal scored at The Den.

Additional information regarding participation, reading goals, available rewards and the program’s official launch will be announced soon.

Families, educators and young Warhounds fans are encouraged to follow the Northern Michigan Warhounds on social media for the latest Slapshots & Storybooks updates.

It is almost time to turn the page, hit the books and light the lamp.
